We’re God’s Gifts

John 17:20-26

Lifting up his eyes to heaven, Jesus prayed saying: “Holy Father, I pray not only for them, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, so that they may all be one, as you, Father, are in me and I in you, that they also may be in us, that the world may believe that you sent me. And I have given them the glory you gave me, so that they may be one, as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may be brought to perfection as one, that the world may know that you sent me, and that you loved them even as you loved me. Father, they are your gift to me. I wish that where I am they also may be with me, that they may see my glory that you gave me, because you loved me before the foundation of the world. Righteous Father, the world also does not know you, but I know you, and they know that you sent me. I made known to them your name and I will make it known, that the love with which you loved me may be in them and I in them.”

Jesus talks about His Children as a Proud Father would.  He even goes as far as to say to God that, “they are your Gift to Me”.  We are the “they”!  And, Jesus is the Ultimate Sharer.  Not only does He want to share us with His Father in Heaven, but He also wants to share us with the world.  With our Parents; our Siblings; our Spouses; our Children; our Grandparents; our Aunts and Uncles; our Cousins; our Friends; our Co-Workers and Colleagues; our Fellow Classmates; our Students; our Neighbors; our Church Members; etc.  It’s easy to remember those “closest” to us in our circles.  But, God is Infinite and He wants Jesus to share us Eternally as Gifts from Him.  Our Gift’s legacy should echo into Eternity.  And, it should echo for all – not just those “closest” to us.  That includes the Stranger; the Enemy; the Poor; the Widow; the Orphan; the Discouraged; the Elderly; the Sinner; etc.  We must be prudent to remember to “share” our Gift with others – that would include the Gift of who are, as well as the Gift of who Jesus is.  So, let’s be sure to let our Life Light shine for all of the world to see!
