John 14:23-29
Jesus said to his disciples: “Whoever loves me will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our dwelling with him. Whoever does not love me does not keep my words; yet the word you hear is not mine but that of the Father who sent me. “I have told you this while I am with you. The Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything and remind you of all that I told you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid. You heard me tell you, ‘I am going away and I will come back to you.’ If you loved me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father; for the Father is greater than I. And now I have told you this before it happens, so that when it happens you may believe.”

Losing someone in your life (especially to death) can be particularly hard on those left behind. We often reflect on what that person meant to us and did for us; and, that can bring a great deal of hurt and sorrow. We sometimes think, “how can I do this without them?” That might have been what the Apostles were thinking when Jesus was crucified. How could they go on without the Messiah? He was the one who spoke with Authority and changed the world in just three (3) years. He was their Leader… Jesus was clear with His Apostles on where He was going and Who (the Holy Spirit) was coming to fill and prepare the Apostles post his departure accordingly. He told them that He would be doing this to get them ready as much as He could before it actually happened. While of the details weren’t 100% clear on “Life after the Passion of the Christ”, what was clear was that Jesus knew where He was going and that His Apostles were going to do Great Things in His Name after He was gone. It’s critically important for each of us to remember where Jesus went on our behalves – to earth, to the cross, to the grave, and, then, back to us on His Way Home to the Father. It’s the same Path that He cleared for us, so that all of us could be Called to take it. Like Footprints in the snow or sand, we should do our best to walk in His Ways.
