Love, Love, Love

John 13:31-33, 34-35

When Judas had left them, Jesus said, “Now is the Son of Man glorified, and God is glorified in him. If God is glorified in him, God will also glorify him in himself, and God will glorify him at once. My children, I will be with you only a little while longer. I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you also should love one another. This is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

The Gospel here talks about Love. In fact, after Jesus talks about Glorification five different times, He then moves on to stressing Love four different times. He was giving us Clarity that now that He and the Father have been Glorified, He is offering a new, all-encompassing Commandment – to simply Love one another. The 1st step to Loving everyone is by realizing how much God Loves us. He Loves us so much that He sent His Only Son to die for our sins, so that we could be reconciled to Him (John 3:16). That’s the Glorification part again driving the Love part. The 2nd step to Loving everyone is Loving ourselves the way that God Loves us. We become Jesus’ Disciples when we Love. Don’t get me wrong, we were Born as Jesus’ Disciples (Ephesians 1), but, for many (and, certainly for Judas), we get a little lost from that Fact along the Way. But, by focusing on His Love for ourselves and then seeing and Loving ourselves the way that He does, we are also Glorified in Him and then will naturally Love others. You just can’t stop Love once it enters your heart or your Soul. It takes over your life and unveils a Reflection of the World to come. It doesn’t matter what race, religion, gender, sexual persuasion, culture, etc. that we embark upon this journey from. What matters the most is that we Love recklessly. For God is Love and so are we when we let His Love flow through us.
