Mark 13:24-32
Jesus said to his disciples: “In those days after that tribulation the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will be falling from the sky, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken. “And then they will see ‘the Son of Man coming in the clouds’ with great power and glory, and then he will send out the angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the end of the earth to the end of the sky. “Learn a lesson from the fig tree. When its branch becomes tender and sprouts leaves, you know that summer is near. In the same way, when you see these things happening, know that he is near, at the gates. Amen, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things have taken place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. “But of that day or hour, no one knows, neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.”

Fall, like its Sister seasons, is just a beautiful time of the year. The leaves are changing color and dropping from the branches of their former homes in a symphony of color that is just breath-taking at times. It’s 100% clear that that Winter is coming and will be followed by a time of renewal that we call Spring. As it goes for the leaves of the trees, so too it will go for us. But, if even the Son of Man cannot know that day or hour, then we are recused to the same fate – both for the time of our own deaths and for the end of this world. Like the leaves, we weather and age in a beautiful symphony that can be breath-taking, too. Have you ever been there when someone accepted Christ as their Savior? Have you ever seen someone pass from this world to the next with a smile on their face as they leave the earthly branches of the hospital bed that they’re lying in? While we can never know the “when” on most things, as the Scripture says, we do know that it’s coming. Take a look around us. Aren’t the leaves changing? Isn’t the world changing? Aren’t we changing? Aren’t we either growing in Christ or away from Christ? Nothing stands still and the leaves are indeed changing both in our world in our Souls. It’s our choice to choose how they change. I’ve heard someone say recently that if everyone lit a candle today, the world would be a lot brighter tonight. Remember in Philippians 4:8, that “whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” So, let us choose the Light and let it shine for all of the world to see.
