Mark 13:33-37
Jesus said to his disciples: “Be watchful! Be alert! You do not know when the time will come. It is like a man traveling abroad. He leaves home and places his servants in charge, each with his own work, and orders the gatekeeper to be on the watch. Watch, therefore; you do not know when the Lord of the house is coming, whether in the evening, or at midnight, or at cockcrow, or in the morning. May he not come suddenly and find you sleeping. What I say to you, I say to all: ‘Watch!'”

While I’ve never personally-served in the Military, I have heard that having the overnight “watch” is a very stressful job. Like the Apostles in the Garden of Gethsemane on the night of Jesus’ arrest, it is nearly impossible to stay-up at the wee-hours of the morning fully-alert in a potentially-stressful situation. We often fail in the flesh just as the Apostles did then. So, it is no different for us in our Spiritual Lives as we try to stay alert when all seems to be going pretty-well. The devil will try to use these times to “lull” us into a Spiritual “nap” to draw us away from God. Rather than press the “cruise-control” at these times, as Men as Christ, we need to keep our feet on the gas pedal. We need to “build”, “accelerate”, “grow”, etc. This is the calm before the storm. This is the ride on the troop carriers heading to Normandy in WWII. This is the time to “get ready”. I’ll end with the Immortal Words of St. Peter who warns all Knights & Saints to “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour” 1 Peter 5:8
