Gospel / Matthew 13:44-52
Jesus said to his disciples: “The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field, which a person finds and hides again, and out of joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant searching for fine pearls. When he finds a pearl of great price, he goes and sells all that he has and buys it. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net thrown into the sea, which collects fish of every kind. When it is full they haul it ashore and sit down to put what is good into buckets. What is bad they throw away. Thus it will be at the end of the age. The angels will go out and separate the wicked from the righteous and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth. “Do you understand all these things?” They answered, “Yes.” And he replied, “Then every scribe who has been instructed in the kingdom of heaven is like the head of a household who brings from his storeroom both the new and the old.”
In the movie, “Glengarry Glen Ross”, we are introduced to the sales mantra of “Always Be Closing”. They call it the ABC’s of sales in the movie. This concept resonates with many of us in a number of areas in our lives. I met my Wife and, after six (6) weeks of dating, I knew who God had put in my path. I asked her Dad for his approval to marry his Princess and the rest is history. When you know, you know. A lot of folks ask “how did you know” to many of us when we make our biggest decisions – especially around getting engaged and/or married. Our answers tend to be vague – we give them the “I just had a feeling about it” answer. That’s how God moves in our lives. He “warms” our Souls to the point of knowing that something special is going on or is about to happen. We Instinctively know that something’s different. And, that’s when we close the deal if we can. Evangelizing for God is no different. God seems to “always be Closing” with folks. I think that He expects the same from us. In the Fields of our Faiths, He expects us to be Closing for Him. To stand-up and choose to Honor Him in all that we do and mirror the example that His only Son, Jesus Christ, gave to us. Jesus didn’t hit people over the head or put them in a head-lock to bring them to God. He loved like nobody had ever loved before and He was “closing” thousands left and right in His neck of the woods. And, He’s still Closing millions of folks today.
