Dress for Success

You’ve probably heard it said that we should “dress for success”.  Whether it’s a job interview, a baseball game, or making a Sunday meal together, each situation calls for a certain type of “dress” that will make us the most successful at the task at hand.  When Jesus died on the cross, He wore our sins and allowed us to “dress for Spiritual success”.  I’m not talking about wearing a three-piece suit to Sunday Services.  I’m talking about His robe of forgiveness.  This phrase is universally-applicable to all situations – even being a couch potato during March Madness.  The difference is that while we know what we should be wearing, we are often not donning Christ’s “dress” for us.  We can get so distracted by the world, that we can forget that Christ has already torn the veil that once laid between us and God.  He did for us what we could not do for ourselves – no matter how hard we tried.  So, remember, even when you’re not feeling like a Saint, you still are one and you are cloaked in a robe of white due to your love for Jesus and His love for you.  In moments of Spiritual frustration, I am reminded of Saint Paul’s frustrations.  “We know that the Law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin. I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do, I do not do. But what I hate, I do. And if I do what I do not desire, I admit that the Law is good. In that case, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it. I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my flesh; for I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For I do not do the good I want to do. Instead, I keep on doing the evil I do not want to do. And if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.” Romans 7:14-20  Saint Paul is wearing a robe of white in Heaven with all of the Saints and Hosts of Heaven, but he was also wearing one when he was on Earth.  And, so are we.
